Generally, you should wait until a week after you missed your first period for taking a pregnancy test to get the best result, as in case if you are pregnant, you need some time to develop some levels of HCG which can be detected; it generally takes around seven to twelve days after the egg has been successfully implanted.

These are some of the signs that should prompt you to take a pregnancy test:

You have missed your period: An accurate sign of pregnancy is when you miss your period. The menstrual cycle of women varies in general from 28 days to a month. You should think of taking a test if it has been more than 30 days since you last had your period. Also, it would help if you were attentive to the menstrual flow you are suspecting pregnancy.

It is quite common to have light spotting or light bleeding in the early days of your trimester as, during implantation, the eggs get deeply buried into the uterine walls. But contact your gynecologist if you are pregnant and bleeding.

Feeling cramps: Implantation can make you feel a similar discomfort that you face during menstrual cramps, which might make you think that it is due to menstruation, but it is not. It would be best if you were taking a test to clarify, as hormone level varies from women to women.

Your breasts are sore: As pregnancy produces more estrogen and progesterone levels, the hormones then start making changes to your body to support the growth of your fetus. Your breasts might feel soft and may appear quite big due to the increase in blood flow, your nipples can pain, and the veins can look darker. Well, sometimes it may be just a symptom of menstruation, but having a pregnancy test will keep your doubts at bay.

Your body shows other changes: Along with the above-mentioned changes, the early days of your pregnancy can cause nausea, lack of appetite, fatigue, and frequent urination. These symptoms can get stronger with passing weeks, so you should pay careful attention to your body.

If you notice any other physical symptoms which is unusual, it’s definitely a signal that you should be taking a test.

Your contraceptives didn’t work: Condoms and birth control pills are not 100 % effective. Despite your preference for a birth control method, taking a pregnancy test is recommended.

Test whenever in doubt!

Women who are sexually active in their reproductive years might get pregnant despite protection. So carefully analyze the signals given by your body. If you test early, it is helpful as you take adequate care of your body and, if it is applicable, the requisite early care for your baby.
